Horticulture

The mission of the Horticulture Program is:

  • To provide quality programs for members of the commercial horticulture community, with an emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM), pesticide training, and innovative, localized research.
  • To help Rensselaer County consumers maintain and improve their homes and grounds using environmentally-sound horticultural practices.
  • To create a dynamic Master Gardener program, which fosters leaders and teachers willing to share their knowledge with the community

August 2, 2014 from 10:00am- 2:00pm A Country Garden Faire at the Demonstration Garden at the Robert Parker School, 4254 Route 43, Wynantskill, NY 12198. Demonstrations throughout the day on composting, herb gardening, sharpening your garden tools and garden fairy houses. Visit the theme gardens, plant sale, Q & A table and favorite garden tools display. Soil testing sample drop off available. Admission is FREE. For more information call 272-4210.
August 6, 2014 from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Demonstration Garden at the Robert C Parker School, 4254 Route 43, Wynantskill, NY 12198. Weeds are one of the gardener's biggest challenges and there are several strategies to keep them at bay. We'll look at various options, including both organic and non-organic herbicides, for weeds in garden beds as well as in lawns. Admission is FREE.
September 9, 2014 from 7:00pm -8:00pm at the Demonstration Garden at the Robert C Parker School, 4254 Route 43, Wynantskill, NY 12198. A discussion of the magnificent ornamental grasses found in the garden, as well as good grasses for lawns and the weedy grasses found in gardens and along roadsides. Admission is FREE.
