Basic Digital Skills Training, 4-session series

  • A digital device is not required to participate, however, participants are encouraged to bring their smartphone, laptop, or tablet for interactive participation.
  • Pre-registration is required and is limited to 10 participants.

May 4: Finding Reliable Information Online

  • Learn how to use search engines, like Google, to find information online and evaluate its reliability. This session includes a discussion on search tips, clickbait, pop-up windows, and more. Participants can bring their own devices, and will also search for information on topics of interest to them if time allows.
  • May 18: Staying Safe Online; General Safety Tips
  • Learn how to create a long, strong password you can remember, how to avoid falling for malicious emails (specifically phishing), and how to identify a reliable, encrypted website for online shopping.
  • June 1: Staying Safe Online; Social Media and Cyberbullying
  • Learn about common privacy settings on social media apps and websites and how to deal with cyberbullying. The discussion will include “catfishing” or fake social media profiles.
  • June 15: E-Mail Basics
  • Participants will create an email account with G-Mail if they do not already have an email account, and learn how to send, read, respond to, and delete email messages.
